Dog walker questions, answered.
Pricing, pay, background checks, and how walks are assigned.
How do I get walks on Dote? +
Owners send walk requests, and each request is offered to walkers nearby. The first available walker to accept gets the walk.
Who sets the price of a walk? +
Dote sets the price of each walk based on the needs of the owner and the dog, such as the length of the walk and whether the dog needs a potty break. You are paid for every walk you complete.
Can I choose which walks to accept? +
Yes. You can accept or decline any walk, and your availability stays yours.
How do I get paid? +
You are paid once a week, directly to your bank account, for the walks you completed.
What checks do walkers complete? +
Every walker completes identity verification and a criminal background check through a third-party screening provider before their first walk, with periodic re-screening afterward.
What happens if an owner cancels? +
Cancelling is free for the owner before a walker is assigned. After a walker is assigned, a 30% fee of the walk price applies, shared with the walker for their time.
Do I need experience? +
Experience helps, and good judgment matters most. Read our guides on how to become a dog walker and how to read dog body language to get ready.
Is every walk tracked? +
Yes. Every walk is tracked live on a map from arrival to drop-off, and you add a photo during the walk. This is part of the Dote Trust Promise.
